Since around 2020, I have been wanting to create a resource for students studying artificial intelligence in CBSE schools. It started with my need to help my elder daughter. I write about her predicament in more detail here, but the TL;DR is this: Her course book did not do a good job of explaining the topics, and her teachers were equally inadequate. If this was the situation in one of the best K-12 schools in the country, I could only imagine the situation in other schools.

So I started creating blogs and YouTube videos around some of the most critical topics. I posted them, she shared them with her friends, I received a few good pieces of feedback around how helpful it was and that was pretty much it.

I pushed the project to the back burner because I did not have the necessary resources or time at my disposal.

A few months later, when I cared to look at the numbers, I realised that many of them were ranking on the first page and had decent traffic for a website that hardly had any authority.

Now, converting the site to a full-fledged resource hub and monetising it seemed like a good business idea. But it is almost impossible to monetise a resource targeted at school students. Of course, I could target parents, and they would be more willing to pay. But that would have been too much marketing — the only thing I really hate about my business.

The teaching part though? That I love doing. And helping students is something I continue to do despite having stopped teaching (computer science in DPS, Bokaro) 14 years ago. So I could not stay away for long.

With Google Search sending me monthly updates on my traffic, when the organic traffic reached 100k+ per month, I thought it would be foolishness not to convert it into a passive income source.

But for that, I needed to go all in on developing the blogs and videos. Which meant allocationg time and resources to the project.

Even in the past, when I was trying to build my writing business, I had tried out freelancers. It had not really been successful, and so I am not keen on having even one more person in my team. I am goos as the solo entrepreuner I am, But let me tell you, this is completely on me. I find it easier to work on things myself rather than training and supervising team members. Maybe when I have more time at hand, I might be willing to do that. Because training is something I love doing — I have trained a 100+ new writers in corporate setup. I just need to buckle up and do it for myself as well.

But then, something happend in the latter half of 2025. I joined AI Led Growth and started experimenting more with training AI — I use ChatGPT and Claude the most — on my voice and writing style. Once I thought they were doing a decent job of it, I started using them in my writing workflow.

So now that I had an AI assistant, I felt the time had come to create that resource for students. Because like I said, I love teaching, and that was a project always at the back of my mind.

Now there was another logistical issue that cropped up.

iTechCreations has always been my portfolio as well as business website. Meaning, it showcased my writing skills and past work. But I had been posting all the blogs on artificial intelligence on that same site. At that point of time, it seemed fitting because I am a tech writer and those topics I was writing about were very much tech. And now that these blogs were already attracting lots of organic traffic, I did not want to lose them as the starting point. So I needed to have another home for my portfolio.

So I decided to make my personal blog Shilalekh my portfolio website as well. After all, a portfolio is nothing but one page with links to past work.

Now, it may seem like an easy thing to do. Create a portfolio page on Shilalekh and remove it from iTechCreations. Upload the blogs and done.

But let me tell you, in real life, it is anything but.

I was not sure — and honestly, still, not sure — if Shilalekh is good enough as a portfolio website. Plus, I will need to design the whole portfolio page from scratch. Although that has the advantage of making it into something more over time, that is again lots of work.

While still in two minds, I started uploading blogs for classes 9 and 10. I knew that first the homepage needed to change to reflect the pivot but never worked on it. I had all the content done. Being a writer and owner of this website, I could afford take a content-first approach and that is exactly what I did.

Even though changing iTechCreations’ homepage has been on my list of tasks for quite some time (almost 6 months), it was only this Wednesday that I could finally change it.

So here it is for you to check out and tell me how awesome of a job I have done.

Jokes apart, I would really like to know if the homepage does justice to my vision: a free, straightforward resource for students.
